Pure Brightness, 2024 Oil and acrylic on canvas 40 x 30 cm

Pure Brightness is the third healing painting series Zhang created, following Grain in Ear in Beijing (2022) and Autumn Equinox in New York (2023). This series is inspired by Zhang’s month-long stay in Reykjavik, Iceland, in early 2024. From the soft pastel streets and the quietness of the city to the cool coastal breeze and colorful skies, Zhang encountered numerous peaceful and meditative moments. These experiences are reflected in Pure Brightness, capturing her relaxed mind and body during that time. To integrate this series with the window display, Zhang added colorful background illustrations for each painting. She hopes to blend the imagery with soft, harmonious colors and invites the audience to pause, breathe, and immerse themselves in a moment of stillness—offering a space for personal healing and contemplation within the fast-paced world outside.
