A Love Story, 2026
Video installation, Silent, looped video

A headline has been written. Then the author must have gone for a smoke or got distracted. We have grown accustomed to explaining and naming things before experiencing them: headlines, annotations, descriptions, plans, summaries, and only then the thing itself. “What are you going to do?” “What is your plan?” Yet language presents us with a peculiar problem. To name something precisely, we must know what it is. And if we know exactly what it is, doesn’t that imply it already exists and happened? What happens, then, when we define something before we begin producing it? If “A Love Story” already exists, what is left for the author to write? How can we produce something that, by definition, has already come into existence? Or perhaps we can take this proposition seriously for a moment: if the story already exists, might we actually be able to experience it? Daria Bogatyreva invites the viewer to contemplate this apparently impossible possibility. Perhaps you already know the story. Perhaps there’s nothing to add. Perhaps the message has already been delivered.
