In DAD, Ai Ohashi confronts the domestic violence she experienced at the hands of her father. Images of the artist and her deceased father overlap, reflecting the feeling that he continued to watch her after his death, as well as the intimate and oppressive power of patriarchy within the family. Through a performance in which she raises her voice against her father, Ohashi explores the anger and complexity of a survivor who refuses to remain silent. The work questions expectations of victims as passive and innocent, while asserting their right to be flawed. In the final scene, she waves goodbye to her father, yet his image remains superimposed on her own.
