Painting

At the start of 2022, I had the happy idea of painting a suffering kneeling sculpture in the interior of Lourve in replacement of the winged victory of Samothrace.

A couple months later, I discovered a new way to paint light in the darkness of an Italian chapel that hosts Piero Della Francesca’s Resurrection.

On my recent visit to the second floor of the Frick Collection in New York, I was constantly interrupted by museum guards for standing too close to the Vermeers.

After numerous paintings of architectural spaces that are based on actual museums, it came to me that I am concerned with how such spaces act as a site of worship, a repository of power and knowledge. Behind the faithless devotion to replicating their structures, I also experience a craving for alterations and derangement.

I wish to use my time in GlogauAIR to further unpack my desire to interject the authorship and idealism of such spaces, using painting as a way of embodied thinking, developing the negative of subconscious, waiting to be given meanings.
