recreated darkroom, 2025
silver gelatin prints on expired paper
10 x 15 cm (each)
My photographic practice is an exploration of the limitations of portrait photography to present fixed identities – of efforts to consolidate a subject within the confines of a frame. Instead, I engage with fragmentation and invite the viewer to put the pieces together.
The darkroom process and film development, alongside experiments with developers, contrast filters, and multiple negatives are all elements that are intrinsic to my practice.
These photographs were hand printed on expired paper in a darkroom in Prenzlauer Berg. For the showcase window display, I wanted to recreate this darkroom setting, showing the red safe light environment and a drying process which the fiber prints require.
