Unmask, 2025
Photographic collage, thermoformed plexiglass Dimensions variable (A4 adjacent)
UNMASK is a series of self-portraits that treats the face as a site of distortion and reconstruction. Fragmented photographic prints are torn and reassembled, then encased in thermoformed plexiglass, compressing the image into something suspended between preservation and suffocation.
The work explores the instability of identity under pressure: how femininity is performed and reconstituted through the external gaze and internal control. The surface appears sealed, but never resolves, resisting a singular or fixed self.
By enclosing the image within a warped, skin-like shell, the work mimics both protection and containment. It asks what it means to be seen clearly, and whether clarity is ever possible.
