YOU ARE A TIME MACHINE is part of my recent series of video work called YOU, AN ARCHIVE, which uses moving images as a meditative practice for contemplating possible futures in a time dominated by despair and grief. As we fall into familiar images (here, landscape seen through train windows) they become rhythmic and embodied portals to memory, thought, and desire; that is, you are provoked by your own archive of experiences. The familiar becomes strange, mystical, queer in every sense, and perhaps even transformative. My film and video work exists somewhere between documentary, fiction, and abstraction. I use rich color, intimate and patient compositions, structural montage, durational experiments, and layered soundscapes. For me, working with moving images means constantly chasing time; its very impermanence attracts me as an embodied, haptic, and existential form of witnessing where we tumble through memory, anticipation, longing and back again. I aim to use such sensory images as a language of resistance, both as a refuge for the weary soul and as a space for dreaming radical possibilities.
