unfired ceramic 70 cm x 45.5cm, documented ritual.
Charcoal found in a dried lakebed in Ibex, Utah where the site-specific ritual was performed spell out “Sanctuary” in the Deseret Alphabet, an early Mormon writing system. Projected onto curtains from the modern day Mormon temple ceremony to reclaim symbols used in ritualistic abuse; ‘Sanctuary’ expresses a statement of belonging to oneself as well as a desperate pleading for salvation.
