Statement
Xiao Yu is a visual artist, researcher and organiser with a background in behavioural science and spatial research.
Her work has developed through long-term engagement with an allotment garden, using photography, moving image, artist books, drawing and writing to explore how people live with and become attached to places.
She is particularly interested in migration, belonging, ecological change and knowledge formed through everyday experience. She also runs Sansan Books and co-founded Nature of Rotterdam, an artist residency in her allotment garden, building small-scale infrastructures for artists to publish, stay, work and gather.
