GERMANOR: Raising funds for the victims after Dana floods in Valencia
Sunday, April 13th | From 12h to 21h
The word “germanor” in Valencian means “brotherhood” or “solidarity.” It refers to the unity and sense of fraternity among people, embodying the idea of a close bond based on solidarity, camaraderie, and cooperation.
Inspired by this concept, a group of Valencian expats has organized these fundraising events for the victims of the DANA floods in Valencia in October 2024. This third edition, which is just a few weeks after Valencia’s traditional festival, ‘Las Fallas’, is a friendly Sunday get-togethers centered around food, music and a little market, capturing the essence of a traditional Paella Sunday in Valencia while also supporting a meaningful cause.
Since the floods struck Valencia last October, the situation in the affected areas is critical. Many homes were rendered uninhabitable, and local small businesses were devastated. With services almost non-existent and an area of 562.7 km2 flooded to a depth of over two meters, the reconstruction efforts are slow and especially difficult for ordinary citizens and small businesses. Therefore, the goal of this event is to continue offering support and to make sure this tragedy is not forgotten, as the people, in the face of political incompetence, still urgently need the help of the people.
The funds raised will primarily go to local aid groups and to assist in the cleaning and rebuilding of L’ Albufera, a natural park heavily impacted by the floods.
Come to enjoy Valencian cuisine, listen to music by Valencian DJs, and explore a local market.
IMPORTANT INFO:
There will be two shifts for paella with two different types: Paella valenciana (with meat) and vegetable paella.
At the market, we will have clothing, fashion, photography, illustrations, music, and more surprises.
