I am Olivier Zimny, a French visual artist deeply connected to Berlin. Although I now live in Paris, I frequently return to Berlin, where I used to live for a while and where I maintain an apartment and draw major inspiration for my work.

“Berliner Nächte” series is inspired not only by Berlin’s vibrant club scene, but by the nature in wich the city is immersed. I was creating these works mainly in Normandy, surrounded by nature that was thriving, as the civilization seemed to be in a still in 2020-2022. Like flashbacks, the paintings encapsulate Berlin’s nights through conceptual and pictorial elements.

In short, “Berliner Nächte” features organic impasto techniques that symbolize lively urban atmosphere, enhanced by an exploration of light and shadow using iridescent colors that evolve with the daylight and seasons. This collection is a profound study of the interplay between light and darkness, notably influenced by the concept of “outreroir” as developed by Pierre Soulages. It creates a compelling interaction between the visible and the invisible, whose elements are in a constant flux. The work also draws heavily from my photographic oeuvre in discotheques, with light flashes and their strong imprints on the retina.

Having been well-received in France, with several pieces already sold and a commission secured in Berlin, I am glad to show in GlogauIAR gallery some of this works for the first time in Berlin.
