Statement

Jin Fang is a Chinese artist working between Shenzhen and Amsterdam. Her practice grows from cross-cultural lived experience and unfolds through continuous movement, observation, and perception. Working primarily with painting, she explores the entanglement of nature, creatures, spirit, and the subconscious, seeking to construct a human and non-human spiritual network situated between metaphysics and ecology. Painting becomes an ecosystem where matter, memory, breath, and the subconscious co-generate forms beyond anthropocentric perception.

GlogauAIR Project

During the GlogauAIR residency, I approach painting as a sustained perceptual practice shaped by contemporary lived experience. Ongoing movement across cultural and geographic contexts has shifted my way of seeing away from stable landscapes toward fragmented, drifting states of perception. My paintings emerge through repeated layering, erasure, and scraping, allowing indistinct marks to condense into forms that exist between organism, terrain, and creatures. I plan to challenge larger-scale painting during the residency, as working at a larger scale is essential to this process: it allows the body to enter the painting as a direct presence rather than a distant observer.
