Statement

Rox Vazquez’s practice brings together material research, speculative fiction and sculptural installation. Drawing on methodologies of world-building and natural history display, she constructs fictional organisms and systems of evidence that blur the boundaries between observation and invention. Through silicone casting, 3D modeling, printing and sensing technologies, her work investigates how material fictions shape our perception of living systems, using objects as vehicles for speculation, observation and the construction of imagined biology, inviting new forms of attention toward living systems.

GlogauAIR Project

Unseen Specimens is an installation developed in collaboration with natural history museums. The project engages directly with non-exhibited specimens held in museum archives—objects that remain outside public display. Working with collection teams, I access these holdings as the starting point for a process of translation into sculptural form. Through 3D scanning, mold-making and silicone casting, I develop translucent fictional organisms whose morphology is derived from real specimens, translated into sculptural form and reintroduced into public space as speculative organisms. During the GlogauAIR residency, I aim to expand on-site research, engagement with archival practices, and the development of an installation system responding to the logic of display, storage, and institutional knowledge production.
