The Honest Lightcutter, 2025

3-in-1 collapsible photography reflector

55 x 48 x 3 cm

The old fable The Honest Woodcutter is reimagined as a tale about the ethics of light instead of morality. The artist cuts three snowflakes from a 3-in-1 collapsible photography reflector—gold(en), silver, and soft-light surfaces. Each snowflake is both a reflector and a vanishing body: a skin of light that once directed illumination, now drifting between reflection and dissolution.

Translating the photographer’s practice into metaphor, the work poses a quiet question: Did you drop this gold(en) snowflake, this silver one, or the soft-light one?

A snowflake should disappear once it touches water; if it floats instead, perhaps what remains is only an afterimage of light—an echo of imagination.
