Oil bars and oil on intervened 34C brassiere 75 cm x 25 cm
This brassiere has lived many lives. I’ll give you the short version, (I won’t go into detail of its manufacture because it was probably done under precarious conditions, as it happens with big brands, and we all know how that goes). I’ll start when I purchased it, around 2020. I bought two brassieres, a white one and a black one. This used to be the white one, (I think that says a little about its after-life as a painting tool). Its black counterpart also underwent some changes, but that’s a different story. Anyway, after five long years in duty, I decided that I it was time for it to leave the tit-carrying workforce and join the painting tool guild. Soaked in black oil paint, it first served as a mark-making tool, an unconventional brush that left lace-like impressions. Then, when the paint wasn’t as wet, I pressed it against canvas and used it for frottage. Later, it was once again soaked, this time in fabric hardener. It had weight on its cups to erase their natural form. Finally, it was painted on (intentionally) following the creases from the flattening. When it was done, I remembered: my first training-bra.
