It Is Me // Mark Son
The showcase this week has work by resident artist, Mark Son, from South Korea.
One of Mark Son’s main themes is memory and he focuses on personal feelings through direct experience. In particular, he’s interested in long term latent trauma. He says that when he draws, he’s often fighting anxiety and fear. Latent memories intertwined within him bother him and lead him away from control. For him, painting is not just a representation of the senses, it is a means for healing and restoring his anxiety. In ‘It Is Me’, Mark reconstructs a ready-made image and asks questions about his own existence.
Mark Son will be presenting his work at GlogauAIR’s Open Studios on September 21 – 22, 2019.
