On-site Residency Program
Taking part in a Residency at GlogauAIR in Berlin, 13 international artists, with diverse social and geographical backgrounds, receive curatorial support, technical support and develop their work in a dynamic community. At the same time they get to know a new culture and landscape, gaining influences from Berlin, which is renowned for its contemporary culture.
During the Residency each artist occupies one studio at GlogauAIR, having the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in a creative process, as well as share ideas and opinions with the other artists in residence.

On-line Residency Program
GlogauAIR’s On-line Program is open to all nationalities and art disciplines. Thanks to this program we look forward to bring artists together on-line to discuss, work, collaborate, be engaged and inspired.
The on-line program is for artists who aren’t able to travel and is more flexible to allow artists to continue to live and work in their existing setting while still experiencing international exchange and professional support. The program includes curatorial support and mentoring sessions, regular group meetings, talks by experts and workshops.

In general terms, GlogauAIR is made for artists but we are also open to accepting other art professionals who do research work. There are multiple opportunities to organize and exhibit your work during the 3-6 months you choose to stay. As part of the program, you will participate in the activities and receive curatorial support, which would be as helpful as it is for the artists.
The only important thing is that the art professional or creative participates in Open Studios, which means that you show this event your work at the end of the stay.
Open Studios is our main event which is held at the end of every Residency. During this 2 days event, all our artists will showcase their work (whether finalized or still in process) to the public, including curators, gallerists, other artists in the city but also art and culture amateurs, neighbors, etc… Every artist will show their work in the studio in which they lived and worked for the previous months, so literally, we open the doors of what has been the burning center of your artistic production and experimentation.
Just note that you would be able to use open studios as an opportunity to curate an experience in the studio provided to you. We have an in-house curator and assistant curator that are constantly working with the residents to support their vision, whatever that may be.

Applying to the Residency Program
After an artist has been selected and after the formalization of the Agreement, the artist receives a Letter of Acceptance signed by GlogauAIR’s Program Coordinator. You can always find detailed and updated information on Make it in Germany.
Sadly, we do not provide grants. The artist is in charge of their own funding. However, if you can find another financial aid (gallery, private or public institution, etc.) we will be happy to have you with us.

The Program fee includes:
- Curatorial Support: you will meet with a professional curator every week to talk about and work on your project.
- Program of activities, workshops and external professional visits: during the residency a curator or gallerist will meet personally with you. You will also be introduced to other professionals and institutions during the residency period.
- Technical Support: during the residency, for the set up of the Showcase as well as during Open Studios
- Media and communication:
- The creation, edition and printing of a Catalogue
- The creation, edition and printing of a Flyer
- The distribution of a Press Release
- Images for promotional materials
- Website space: one page will be created with your profile
- The campaign for the promotion of the Open Studios Event
- Our team will post about your work during your time at GlogauAIR and create useful exposure through our networking and social media platforms.
- Open Studios and Showcase: Your work will be exhibited in the center of Berlin, one of the most important art-cities in the world.
Everything related with the costs of living in the space:
- Rent of the studio
- Access to the common areas: kitchen, toilets and garden.
- Wifi
- Water
- Heating
- Light
If you are planning on working on a very elaborate piece, or your work methodology requires extended time, a full semester might be the right option for you.
If you are looking forward to spending 6 months with us but would like to work on two projects (one project during the first term and another during the second one) that is also an option for you. Please consider that our program is based on terms (3 months), so if you stay for a full semester you might experience some things twice (such as welcome meetings, building/Art tours…). You will also have the chance of participating twice in our Open Studio Program, which is a great opportunity since you will be showing your work to Berlin. If you focus your work on one long-term project you can show your work process during your first Open Studio, and your final piece in your second Open Studio three months later.
If you decide to work on two projects you will be showing the final result of your first project at the first Open Studio, and the final result of your second project during the second one.
You will have an individual studio space, which will work both as your bedroom and workshop. If your work will be developed by a couple, and you specified so in your application, we will make sure your studio is big enough for the both of you.
The studios are distributed throughout three floors. There are five studios on the first and second floor, and three studios on the third floor. There is also a fully equipped kitchen and one bathroom which you will share with the rest of the artists living on the same floor as you.
No, the prices are all the same, regardless of the size of the studio. The Rent fee does not only include the use of the Studio but also all other accommodation fees such as fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and additional garden access.
The artist has to purchase their own art material. During the residency period the artist can borrow material from GlogauAIR and tools to work with and exhibit (with the supervision of the team and the technician). Some of these tools include:
- Material to work: GlogauAIR has two cameras, one 360º camera, small and big projectors, lights...
- The Workshop room (supervised by our technician): make use of our many tools such as drills, levelers, screws, nails, measuring tape, stairs, punching machines etc.
- Material to exhibit: lighting (basic stage lights, spotlights, cold and warm neons, coloured bulbs, lamps…), different screens sizes, speakers, headphones, players, projectors, base and pedestals, white paint, curtains and basic furniture (tables, chairs, stools…).

GlogauAIR does not provide travel or food expenses. During the residency period the artist can borrow certain types of working material and tools which are detailed above.
Here is a list of the closest grocery stores within walking distance in the neighborhood - just click the name of the grocery store and it will take you to an online map. All stores sell the basic essentials and have a large selection of items, the only difference being their price range for certain products.
No, in case of an artistic duo you will be paying one fee plus 200 €/month. You will both be sharing one studio.
Sadly, there are no pets allowed at GlogauAIR.
Partners and children are sadly not allowed during your stay in the residency and cannot participate in the program with you.
In the case you and your partner are an artistic duo, when you apply for the Residency please make sure to specify this. Please note that in this case you cannot propose two different projects, instead we will ask you for one project as a duo.
Your studio is only meant for you or your colleague (in case you are a duo). You are welcome to bring guests during the day. Overnight guests are not allowed. Our premises are meant for the exact number of resident artists, therefore having overnight generates co-living difficulties which we would like to avoid.
GlogauAIR emphasizes openness, respect, and international exchange. Actions that make the atmosphere intimidating, threatening, or hostile to individuals are regarded as serious offenses. Abusive or harassing behaviour, verbal or physical, that disrespects personal characteristics or beliefs such as sex, sexual orientation, race, national origin, religion, and disability is subject to disciplinary sanctions, including being asked to leave the Residency Program.
There are several ways in which you can get to GlogauAIR.
Bus route: X7 or X71 from the airport to the metro station Rudow, and then the U7 until Hermannplatz. From Hermannplatz you can either take a bus (M29) or walk to Glogauer strasse.
Train route: Take the Sbahn S9 until the station Treptower Park and then switch to bus 194.
If you don't mind paying a little more money, you can get a cab or an Uber from the airport (around 30 euros).
Applying to the On-line Program
Meetings will take place between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m Berlin time (if there is a time incompatibility or time difference, we can change to another schedule previously agreed) with the exception of other activities with external collaborators that vary in dates and times depending on their availability (external curator).
A general structure of the on-line program is:
1st Month:
1st week: Wednesday 1st Monthly Meeting
2nd week: individual meeting with Curator advisor
3rd week: presentation of Chema Alvargonzalez work, spanish new media artist and founder of GlogauAIR
4th week: talk Art Marketing Tools, ways of improving our artistic presence in social media
+ On-line weekend
2nd Month
1st week: Wednesday 2nd Monthly Meeting: Catalog preparation, presentation of deadlines, communication strategy, etc
2nd week: Statement text and images submission
3rd week: Corrections and edition of the text with Curator advisor
4th week: Last check of the catalogue
+ Virtual studio visit with external curator, usually Berlin-based
+ On-line weekend
3rd Month
1st week: Wednesday 2nd Monthly Meeting: presentation of Virtual Open Studios, technical doubts and preparations
2nd week: Set up: virtual Open Studios
3 + 4th week: Virtual Open Studios online at www.GlogauAIR.net
* Every week the curator advisor will be available on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon for individual meetings (between 30/45 min duration). With the exception of the submission and corrections weeks in the second month.
The On-line Program fee includes:

- Planned participation in on-line talks and activites
- Media and communication support:
- The creation, edition and printing of a Catalogue
- The creation, edition and printing of a Flyer
- The distribution of a Press Release
- Images for promotional materials

- Our team will post about your work during your time at GlogauAIR and create useful exposure through our networking and social media platforms.
Please note that all payments will be made via bank transfer, no cash will be accepted. Any bank charges such as money wiring fees will be assumed by the candidate before their participation.
