A subject veiling itself, remaining in allusion, withdrawing.
A temperate gesture behind a grid,
hermetic yet permeable, inviting.
A delayed encounter
within the absence of time,
offering nothing and everything possible.
Images between surface and space, admittance and denial,
intimacy and alienation.
Sentences spoken into a space that is already covered by a lichen suggesting a face.
An attempt to offer
a more apposite reflection
of ourselves than the
openly accessible and definite.
David Burkhardt (b. Vienna, AUT, 1996) is a visual artist working in the field of painting, drawing and video. His work makes an attempt at highlighting obscurity in its phenomenological nature: not by illuminating it, but by leaving it integrated as a blind spot of perception. By adding the invisible itself (which isn ́t treated as the absence of an information – „the missing part“ -, but rather as the presence of another manifestation covering up, veiling or fragmenting the image), his images refuse to be entered entirely, leaving us both inside and outside of the work, invited and denied entry.
