Tower of Sleep is a music theatre performance by Ann Tsai that explores resilience and fragility as coexisting aspects of the human spirit. Inspired by Catalan culture and the collective act of building human towers, the work reflects symbolic strength and endurance, while also embracing the vulnerability and tenderness of dreams and sleep.
Structured as an intertwining of live music, voice, and visual performance, Tower of Sleep unfolds through a dramaturgy of contrasts: power and gentleness, stability and collapse, wakefulness and slumber. The stage becomes a space where these forces interlace rather than oppose one another, revealing the subtle equilibrium of the human inner world.
At its core, the project investigates how fragile yet persistent sonic structures can mirror both the resilience of collective rituals and the delicacy of individual states of rest. By bringing together sound, body, and image, Tower of Sleep traces the porous boundary between strength and softness, offering a meditation on balance as both a cultural and personal condition.
