PHONOLOGUES: Fury/Femininity

Opening times:

Sunday 8th | 12 PM – 8 PM

PHONOLOGUES: Fury/Femininity explores anger as a gendered emotion and questions how it is judged differently in public space depending on who expresses it. While anger is often read as strength, clarity, or assertiveness, it is frequently pathologized or morally dismissed when expressed by FLINTA* individuals—framed as “too much,” “too loud,” or “too emotional.” The exhibition challenges this double standard and reclaims anger as a legitimate and necessary response.

At its core are raw, unfiltered voice messages by FLINTA* participants. These intimate audio recordings create direct access to emotions that are often suppressed, minimized, or explained away. They make audible how anger is experienced—spoken, contained, hidden, or reclaimed.

Based on these voices, six FLINTA* artists created or curated works that translate and amplify the energy of anger. The contributions demonstrate how anger can transform into creativity, resistance, and connection—shifting from a stigmatized feeling into a productive force.

Fury/Femininity is the fourth edition of the PHONOLOGUES series, which uses voice messages to foreground lived experiences of FLINTA* individuals as real and audible perspectives. The series provides a platform for FLINTA* artists and creates spaces where questions of femininity, identity, and expression are made visible and open to negotiation.
