MAIA MARINELLI

Italy/United States

I work with the ephemeral elements of nature transforming data into emotional work of art using a combination of performance, installation, sculpture, architecture, technology and photography.

I'm interested in the art work as a membrane.
Having been a professional sailor, I spend most of my life reading the invisible positioning my self as an interface between my natural surroundings and the boat.
As an artist I folded this experience in my practice seeking dialog with my surroundings, becoming or creating art work as public emotional interfaces.

In October 2015 I'm invited to participate to The Arctic Circle a scientist led, annual expeditionary residency program were 5 artist are coupled with 5 scientist to collectively research the landscape and nature of the North Pole. In light of this commitment and thanks to the support of GlogauAIR, I'm opening a new paragraphs of my work. Looking into practices such multi-dimensional kinetic sculpture, sculptural data analysis and data visualization experimentation, I want to research how data can be waved into the narrative of a space translating it into and emotional, sculptural, physical and visual experience.
