ARTISTS TALK
29th January 19:00h

Sight. Sound. Touch. Taste. Smell. The 5 senses are widely understood as the mechanisms through which we perceive the world. For millennia artists scientists and philosophers have thought about these different forms of perception and how they relate to one another. Ian Jehle and Edwina Chen will discuss their theory of sense mapping, which considers the mathematical systems that lie behind perception and considers ways in which the mathematics of the five senses allow for various forms of translation between sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. In keeping with the theme, the lecture will include a performance of portions Fauré’s Requiem which was the inspiration for the exhibition.
